New Delhi: Sony has filed a patent for all new kind of ‘contact lens camera’ giving us a new glimpse into an intriguing future.
The smart contact lens camera can take photos, record, play, and even store videos with just a blink of the eye.
The eye-wear has a lens unit, image sensor, microchip processor and storage unit on the contact lens. It also has a built-in wireless antenna to transmit images to any device such as smartphones, laptops.
Sony’s contact lenses would use sensors to detect when a user open and closes an eyelid.
“It is known that a time period of usual blinking is usually 0.2 seconds to 0.4 sec, and therefore it can be said that, in the case where the time period of blinking exceeds 0.5 seconds, the blinking is certain blinking,” the patent application reads.
The patent notes that the image pickup unit includes image stabilization, aperture stops, focus lens and zoom lens.
The patent also mentions that the image pickup signal processing unit may perform picture stabilization for correcting blur of a captured image, the blur being caused by motion of the eyeball.
It may be noted that Samsung and Google had already filed patents for contact lenses with tiny, built-in cameras.
